This is a comission piece. The client wanted his favorite animal to be turned into a miniature for tabletop gaming and something he could use to take cool pictures as he is a professional photographer. Anyways, he’s also a big fan of the Monkey King, so I added some touches of the character to this miniature. This was definitely a difficult project but a very rewarding one for sure as the clay this time around was either super soft and would make the fur texture disappear if I applied even the slightest amount of pressure so I was working on this with just toothpicks and my vice grip rig that holds my little armatures in place while I sculpt. And this was a special piece because it was the first time where I sculpted the clothes AFTER having cured and cooked the actual character first so to retain all the details. Then the clothes was added, along with the staff and the jade beads and sash. Finally then & only then, I was able to cure and cook everything again. And that’s when I knew that he was done!
